University of Chicago Plate by Spode
Although Wedgwood produced far more college plates for the US market, Spode also
made a small but significant contribution, including a series of twelve plates issued in
1931 for the University of Chicago. The custom designed border is composed of Gothic
architectural decoration, with three small vignettes of the University surrounded by ivy.
Most of the plates were transfer printed in black, and a rare few in blue.
